Rowdy Round-Up

December 17th, 2010 by Dan Nadel

Oh, it’s been a busy month here at the secret HQ. I’d like to tell you about some things.

Brian's sitting here now.

Brian Chippendale has returned to his Providence domicile, where he continues to make new episodes of Puke Force and is prepping for a Lightning Bolt record But luckily the beat for hid book still goes on, and here’s a fine piece of writing about If ‘n Oof by Sean T. Collins.

Slug Girl Sculptures at Baumgold

Renee French has also returned home, but not before leaving a wonderful exhibition at Adam Baumgold Gallery. Do not miss this chance to see Renee’s sublimely rendered artwork, which is totally different in person. Besides, all visits to see Baumgold are worthwhile. You never know what wonderful things he’ll show you. Renee’s conversation with Myla Goldberg was also great — Myla teased out meanings and ideas that were new even to me. It was a rare treat, and was recorded by The Strand. Here’s part 1. Click through to see the other 2 parts.

Good, right? Watch the rest…

Yuichi Yokoyama continues his residency at Nanzuka Underground in Tokyo. Above are a couple of pictures of his tools.

A recommendation: PBox-pal Denise Kupferschmidt has co-curated an excellent exhibition and holiday shop called Tide Pools at Sara Meltzer Projects in Chelsea, NYC. I loved the show, and Matthew Thurber, whose new 1-800 MICE 5 is a must-have, has an excellent sculpture, above, on display.

And finally, here’s a funny one. The Hole is opening a show called “Postermat”, consisting of a couple hundred brand new posters by artists. Kathy Grayson asked me for something and so I obviously turned to Poster Company, the moniker of duo Travess Smalley and Max Pitegoff. Max was an intern for PBox many moons ago and both are pals of Will Simpson, PBox stalwart helper and awesome artist. Travess and Will, of course, run Drawing Depot! Still with me? So Travess and Max took the word PictureBox and some of the colors of the logo and came up with an amazing poster, which will be on display and for sale at the show. I love it when it’s all in the family. Here’s a preview!

Well, that about does it from here. See you around!
