Went to Pittsburgh last weekend to give a talk.
Stayed with Frank Santoro. Which meant immediately spending 3 hours here:
And doing a lot of looking at stuff like this:
and this:
Also, late nights somewhat like this:
Frank’s house is easily identifiable (his neighbor, in a bit of friendly competition, has the Superman logo on next to HIS door.
But Frank truly does live in Storeyville. Look at this block!
Anyhow, we did a ton of awesome driving and visited the Pittsburgh comics wrecking crew.
And of course I got to see Frank work. Here he is prepping his airbrush.
Some hours later:
And naturally I gave my talk
And we even made it to the Carnegie where I spied this gorgeous Al Held painting.
And that was that. See ya Pittsburgh! It was fun!
This blog is going to take you to school. You will learn about all things PictureBox: old dudes; obscure design; good painting; bad painting; dogs; annoying product endorsements. And so forth. All from me, Dan Nadel, your PictureBox host.

That’s “The Studio” book if anyone can’t make out the title. Yes, I still have that out for easy access. I think I’m gonna start dressing like Barry Smith. Wait, CF already does that. Nevermind. I’ll start dressing like Kaluta.
If Frank is Kaluta and CF is BWS, then who is Wrightson? Brinkman? Does that make Jeff Jones….who? BJ? Hmm.
The Studio was the best dressed group of cartoonists since that group of one: Steranko.
