Burne Hogarth

Burne Hogarth (1911-1996) was an American cartoonist and educator. Best known for his eccentric and beautiful work on the Tarzan newspaper strip, Hogarth had an almost Mannerist feel for bodies in motion and the abstract ornamentation possible in landscapes. He co-founded The School of Visual Arts (then known as The Cartoonists and Illustrators School) in 1947. He was also a brilliant talker and fearless theorist whose interviews are essential reading for anyone interested in comics.
