Boody Rogers

Boody Rogers (1904-1996) was the Oklahoman artist of some of the funniest, strangest and more vibrant comic books every made, including Sparky Watts and Babe. He first began publishing in the mid-1920s. He assisted Zack Mosely on Smilin' Jack in the late 1930s and then, in 1940 debuted his own Sparky Watts as a newspaper strip. After fighting in WWII he began a run of comics books that lasted until 1950, at which point Rogers moved to Phoenix where he opened and ran an art supply store. Rogers had a manic, verbally dextrous, punning writing style that matched his bigfoot drawing style. Fun fact: A young Eric Stanton (the great bondage illustrator) assisted him in the late 1940.
