Lauren Weinstein is the artist behind PictureBox’s latest release, The Goddess of War, the first book in a series chronicling the life and times Valkyrie, the eponymous heroine. The book is a masterpiece, combining etchings and illustrations to achieve its brilliant effect. Lauren invited us into her studio to show us what it takes to create an epic. In the images below, Lauren shows off the contents of her studio: models, influences, original drawings and etchings, as well as a couple of works in progress.

Lauren has the full stack of original pages, each of which is graced with pencil notes and collaged elements.

Lauren shows how the proper addition of color can change the emotional intensity of a panel.

On occasion Lauren will make text edits on a separate sheet, and insert them during the production phase.
